I still did not have a ton of time to mess with ammo, so I chrono'ed only five shot groups with three ammo types: Federal GMM 175gr, AAC Precision 168gr OTM and AAC 178gr BTHP. I would have done more, but I have thermal project that needs finishing (can't talk about the one yet, but soon) and some positional shooting to practice.
To my considerable surprise, the FGMM was a little less accurate at 100 yards and had much larger extreme spread. It certainly felt softer shooting and it chronoed at an average of 2579fps with 39fps spread. This is recently acquired ammo. I chrono'ed a box from a lot that is 5-6 years old a little while back and it was about 100fps faster, but with even larger spread.
168gr AAC averaged at 2708fps with 15fps spread https://alnk.to/9bucPmc
178gr AAC averaged 2683fps with 14fps spread https://alnk.to/5jlxfpI
Both AAC loads were a hare under 1MOA and FGMM was a hair over. Sample size of one, so do not make too many conclusions out of it yet.
The notably less expensive AAC ammo is looking pretty good, but it is off of very few shots. I'll do more testing over the next few days, but I suspect I'll order some 178gr ammo to be delivered directly to where I am taking the class. It sure looks like it is good enough for my purposes.
Aside from that, the 7-35x56 Tangent https://alnk.to/gzW21Hs is still remarkable, but that should not be a surprise. Area 419 mount https://alnk.to/5jlxfvd is as close to flawless as I have yet seen, although I am sure I'll find something to nitpick about with more use.
Ckye triple pull bipod is kinda growing on me. https://alnk.to/bPdzxJL I think I will use one for the team competition next year.
I have a ton of mileage with Q's Fix and this 308 is the original one I got from them (albeit with a 24" CF barrel instead of the 16" one I started with). As I was waiting for the barrel to cool and for my shoulder to relax (I was testing a thermal scope on a 458SOCOM in parallel), I found myself reflecting on the versatility of the Fix.
That was sort of the original idea of this rifle: with a heavy Tangent and Ckye bipod, it is a perfectly reasonable rifle to take to a competition or a long range class.
With Razor HD-LHT https://alnk.to/5Fb3dfE and Gunwerks Elevate bipod https://alnk.to/2jMEzKS, it is a lightweight mountain hunting rifle capable of serious distance.
With an LPVO or MPVO like March 1.5-15x42 https://alnk.to/bto3Abx and a thermal clip-on https://alnk.to/6mQ58xa, it is a perfect rifle to hunt hogs or coyotes at night.
If you want one rifle to do pretty much anything that you need a bolt gun to do, this might be it.
If I was starting out today, I'd probably lean toward the 6.5CM version if you are up in the mountains or 8.6BLK if you are keeping distances moderate. https://alnk.to/gp1h38t
On the other hand, I am not exactly complaining with what my 308 Fix can do.
