AAC 5.56 ammo in yet another AR
Last night, rather than go to sleep like sane people do, I put together a more precision oriented AR upper, this one built around an 18" WOA SPR barrel.
It is still a relatively light weight gun since other components are light. Without optics, with the lower half shown in the picture it clocks in at 6.6lbs. It is right around 9lbs with the Blackhound 2-12x44 in an Aadmount, so it was an easy gun to shoot with.
The barrel is brand spanking new and ARs usually settle into their accurate state of things a few hundred round in. Still, I shot two ten shot groups with each ammo type and they were all in the 1.2 to 1.4MOA range.
Velocity of the 77gr ammo averaged 2685fps. https://alnk.to/g3bzPC7
For 75gr ammo it was 2674fps. https://alnk.to/5FaRXul
This time, I was shooting a little further out and there were notable wind gusts. I suspect the rifle and the ammo are capable of slightly better accuracy than that. Once the barrel and bolt are properly broken in, I'll shoot some groups in the 100 yard tunnel we have. I try to avoid the tunnel in the summer since it get s a little warm.
Either way, these velocities are unusually high for an 18" barrel, but I had some known velocity stuff with me (in another rifle), so I think the chronograph is working properly.
I tried to finally film the review for the Blackhound 2-12x, but gusty wind quickly transitioned into weather conditions that resembled the inside of a sandblaster. I took some through the scope pictures and I'll just record this thing indoors later tonight.
