In the aftermath of that long livestream I did on scope mounts, a couple of things became apparent:
1) I seem to have pissed off a lot of peope
2) providing general guidelines is not enough. I keep on getting asked about specific mounts, often ones I have not seen.
I will start putting together a list of rings and mounts I am reasonably happy with it and put it into the FAQ: https://darklordofoptics.locals.com/faq
The list will not be exhaustive. There are many mounts on the market and I would have a hard time getting my hands on all of them.
I will keep notes on how I like the design and execution of the ones that go through my hands.
Maybe I should go and reach out to a bunch of scope mount companies and see if they want me to evaluate their mounts. I need to decide if i can take on something of this magnitude in good faith.
The latest two I decided to re-visit as I test the two new Delta scopes are Reptilia AUS 34mm 0 MOA slope https://shrsl.com/482a8
And Badger Ordnance Unimount 34mm 20 MOA slope https://shrsl.com/482av
Reptilia mount got several government contracts recently, most notably it was selected for the UK's Hunter program.
I have a few other Reptilia products that I like, but I have not seen the mount before. I have to admit that it is pretty sleek. It seems to be engineered well and despite having a rather minimalist footprint, stiffness does not appear to be compromised. The slim footprint really helps if you have an offset sighting system of some sort. There is a provision for adding an offset mount to it, but I have not tried it yet.
This is not a cheap mount, but a brief web search showed that it is well under $300 on Opticsplanet, so it is not quite ridiculous.
Badger Unimount has been around for a while now. It is not as sleek-looking as Badger's Condition 1 mount series, but the price is a lot lower as well. Like most Badger products historically, it is sorta utilitarian looking, but I have had very good luck with these in the past. The edges are not as smoother out as on a Reptilia, but all the important stuff seems to be done well and it is well under $200.
Rather that go through and give you a rundown on every mount I have in the safe, I figure that I will start issuing these updates as I go along.
Let me know if you have any questions.
