Random Updates and Maven deal
Somewhat unusually, I am actually home for the week and there is a lot to finish before I get on the plane next week.
Kids are on a summer break which does not help, but they are at a fun age, so I am looking forward to taking some archery lessons with them, going to the range and things like that.
I previously mentioned that I'd like to do a livestream on Thursday of this week and I still havn't quite decided on the topic. I had a few suggestions earlier, but if something is of specific interest to you, now is the time to voice it. I want to lock it down tomorrow, so that I have at least a couple of days to think through it.
There are some thermals I am wrapping up with, so I am leaning toward talking about that.
Switching gears a little, I have to confess that all the various "marketing" holidays do not really do anything for me. For example, Father's Day is coming up and I really do not get it. I love and respect my Father all days of the year and I hope my kids have those same feelings for me. Besides, with the ongoing war on masculinity, I am sure the media will screw it up for everyone anyway (and there is Juneteenth at the same time now, which sounds like a good thing in theory, but will turn out as the usual woke crock of shit in practice).
In the meantime, I just got a Father's Day e-mail from Maven. I do not talk about Maven a whole lot because while they make perfectly reasonable products, in most cases, I am not quite sure what their competitive advantage is. Snazzy packaging and cute marketing do nto qualify.
They do, however, make a few unusual products that I like and occasionally recommend, most common being the 6x30 B3 binocular:
https://bit.ly/3QjuITi The basic problem with that binocular though is that I recently discovered the Kowa 6.5x32 bino that I really like and that costs less: https://bit.ly/3tuBDyT
Maven's 9x45 B2 binocular is another interesting configuration. I like having a 5mm exit pupil in my binos, so 9x45 and 10x50 are more interesting configurations for me than the ubiquitos 10x42. That having been said, I also like binos with built in LRFs and Maven does not seem to make that.
Why am I talking about Maven, then? Because I just got an e-mail from that all their riflescopes are 20% off until Father's Day. While with most of their riflescope designs that would not be enough to get me to overlook the occasionally odd reticles and configurations, they do make a light weight riflescope I genuinely like: RS.2 2-10x38. It is sort of a modern tweener hunting scopes weighing in 12 ounces. SHR reticle is actually pretty decent and optomechanically the scope is very respectable. I do not know if I would pull the trigger at the regular $550. If that's your price range, I would just get the Trijicon TR20 3-9x40 for $600 and be done with it (https://bit.ly/3xKE6XF). However, at $440 for the next few days, the RS.2 is a pretty appealing option.
