If you saw yesterday's livecast on Ukraine, I am sure you figured out that I am finally back home (for a few days).
One of the few perks of work travel is that I can often go visit with people and/or companies that happen to be in the general area where work takes me.
This time around, I was able to sneak in two visits in between things: Accufire Technologies and Primary Arms.
PA will be the subject of a separate post, of course. In the meantime, let's talk about Accufire.

I first ran into these guys three years ago, I think, and walked away quite uninterested. The gentleman I talked to said all sorts of nice sounding things, but he seemed to be lacking some substance. Then, not too long ago, I noted that when Cyclops Joe visited with them, all the people in the video did not look familiar. I made a mental note to investigate and promptly forgot about it. Fast forward to this year's SHOT Show. I did not have time to visit them, but a friend of mine did. When we were chatting afterwards, he flat out said that I really should go talk to them, so I did.
This time around, I walked away a lot more impressed. They have what looks like a nice thermal monocular/clip-on at a good price (Incendis). I have a hog hunt coming up, so their Incendis will be one of the products I look at.
Day scopes seem to be intelligently configured. I can't tell what the optical quality is like based on a quick cursory look, but nothing immediately jumped out at me as obviously screwy. I should probably look at the 2.5-20x50.
They showed me a couple of prototypes of new stuff they are working on and, again, I can't fault their logic in terms of how they configure the product and the feature set. Frankly, it looked like it will be exceedingly competitive.
One upcoming product I got to see firsthand that is already listed on their website is the Omnis spotter. It is essentially a digital camera with a long lens that should make for a very decent digital spotter. What is equally important is that it should work well with an IR illuminator. Once production units are out, I am definitely getting my hands on this one. I can think of all sorts of interesting applications for it:

The big takeaway here is that they are small and agile. They are clearly in a start-up mode, but they are making products and clever ones. It is not enough to just have clear ideas. You also have to execute and they look to be executing.
Ultimately, the proof is in the pudding, so to speak. Once I spend a little more time with their products, I'll share more details.
