A few weeks ago, a gentleman reached out to me who said that he stumbled onto my optics ramblings and was wondering if I am interested in joining him for one of his podcast episodes.
His podcast name is Silvercore and, I have to admit, until that point I had never heard of it.
Now, to be fair, that is hardly surprising. My life is busy and, unfortunately, I barely have time to listen to anything. In an odd way, when we moved to New Mexico, my ability to keep up with podcasts, audiobooks, etc has really gone down. When we lived in LA, I spent a lot of time driving, so I was much more connected to the podcast world. Here, I barely drive since I work from home.
Some people are very good in listening to something when they are at home or in the office working or doing something else. Fortunately or unfortunately, that is not how my brain works. I hyperfocus on something for a couple of hours. Get it finished. Take a short break and then immerse myself into whatever is next on the list.
When I am really focusing on something, you can have a marching band rehearse six feet behind me and I will not know they are there.
It does help me be efficient, but it does not help me be aware.
That downside is quite significant. I went and listened to a couple of episodes of the Silvercore podcast and it is really good. Legitimately good and this is the kind of a program that I should have been aware of.
Travis (that's the name of the gentleman behind Silvercore) brings in good guests and has meaningful and interesting conversations with them.
Given a long track of high quality podcasts, I suppose he was due for a lapse in judgement and that is what I have to thank for him reaching out to me.
We chatted a bit earlier in January. Travis is a smart guy and I really enjoyed the conversation. Naturally, I was coming down with some sort of a virus at the time, so he had to spend quite a lot of time filtering out all the coughing, sneezing and assorted russian cursing that typically accompanies them.
The podcast episode we recorded should be out this coming week (8th if memory serves me right). I have not heard the finished copy, so I am quite curious how legible that will be. Since I was sporting pretty decent fever at the time, my recollection of what exactly I said is somewhat limited. If I said something particularly stupid, I apologize in advance.

I have not listened to all of his podcasts, but I am slowly working my way through them. They are naturally available through all the usual podcasting services (Apple, Google, Podbean, etc).
The ones I have listened to are good and I find the Canadian perspective interesting.
