Keltec is, in many ways, a fascinating gun company.
They have an unmistakable look to them and the way they design things... Let's just say they march to the beat of their own drum.
That having been said, I think their designs are pretty clever and the few I have used generally worked well. The latest Keltec product I purchased was their CP33 22LR handgun. There was no possible way for a refugee from California to not buy a handgun with a flush fitting magazine that fits 33 rounds in it. Since it has a fixed barrel and a picatinny rail, my original plan was to check for accuracy, then set it up with a pistol brace and a suppressor for a lightweight suppressed and stabilized weapon.
Accuracy turned out to be quite good as was the trigger. I have talked about it in a few videos here and there. Loading the magazine correctly had a learning curve, but nothing major.
The problem was with reliability. After some messing with it and break in period, I still could not get the first round to feed from the magazine. Once I managed to get that first round in, the rest of the rounds in the magazine cycled fine.
Keltec has a lifetime warranty for the original owner, best I can tell, so I figured I should reach out to them.
General disclaimer: I did not go through the media channels, so I am pretty sure they treated me exactly the same way they treat other people.
That was one of the more courteous customer service experience I have had in this industry.
I filled out a form on their website and got an e-mail from someone within 24 hours.
The e-mail essentially just told me where to send the gun and what paperwork to add to it (original record of sale and problem description). If it was within 90 days of purchase, they would pay for shipping both ways, but since I took my sweet time, I paid for shipping there and they paid for shipping it back.
It took them around three weeks, I think, to turn it around. I got an e-mail when they received it. Another, when the gunsmith logged into his queue. Later the same day, I got an e-mail that he fixed it. The next day or so, they shipped it back to me.
I just fished it out of the mail, so I have not shot it yet. I will give you an update once I do.
The gun came back to me with a polished and chamfered feed ramp, spotlessly clean and with a replaced magazine.
We'll see if it works now, but I can't fault their customer service.
